For my 40th birthday I am raising funds to support the national bone marrow registry. Will you join me?

Dad was incredibly lucky. While it took literal years before he was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), a form of blood cancer, we had good health insurance and he didn't have to go to the transplant registry. My aunt Diane, the eldest of the Lavely siblings, was a match. We know not every patient in need of a bone marrow transplant has a family match or the financial resources to support all the direct and indirect costs associated with a transplant.

For my 40th birthday, I'm riding my bike 257 miles over six days around Puget Sound and Victoria, BC to raise funds for Be The Match, the national bone marrow registry. It's a celebration of how far I've come in my cycling journey since 2012 when I made the decision to honor a commitment I made with Dad. You can read more about that story in the linked Rider Spotlight from 2013, click here.

I truly believe this is the ride I meant to do. It is kismet, divine intervention, fate, and a little bit of Dad's handiwork that lead me to this ride this year. I will happily share the story with you sometime, just tell me when and where. As for now I am training! The ride will be August 7-12 and will, quite literally, be in my front yard (day 1 at least).

Every gift will help support families in need and many employers offer gift matching which can double or triple the impact. Click the "support me" button at the top of the page or click here to make a donation. I appreciate your continued support.

Be The Match® is a global leader working every day to save lives through cellular therapy.

The money I raise will help patients at risk of not getting a life-saving bone marrow transplant because the financial burden is just too much. Your gift will help deliver cures to these patients desperate for a second chance at life.

Please help me reach my fundraising goal by making a tax-deductible contribution today.

Every dollar counts. Together, we will make a difference!
